I was shopping with my sister in law several months ago. We were looking in home interior shops for pictures to hang in her living room. Their house has a family room on the lower level which has been decorated in a north woods theme. She wants to have a more formal look in her upstairs living room area. She did not want floral prints or landscape scenes. She wanted something unique, but she did not know what. It was one of those situations that she would know it when she saw it.
A few weeks ago I asked my sister in law if she had found wall hangings yet. She had not so I suggested going with a black and white print of a photograph that I had taken this summer. The photograph was taken when I was out in our boat. I was trying to capture the beautiful sunset. As I was taking the picture several geese took to flight off the water. I took a series of six photos. When I had them developed the bright glare of the sunset and the colors deterred from the geese and the water beading off their wings as they rose out of the lake. The film developer suggested that I try a black and white print to see what the pictures would look like. He thought they would turn out well by having the colors taken out of the sky. He offered to experiment with one of the negatives and see what he could come up with.

I have never been very interested in having any of my pictures developed as a black and white print. I like to take pictures, but I have never had any formal training as a photographer. I mainly take photos of life on the lake, including fish catches, water skiing, swimming and other family gatherings. My husband has often told me that I am good at taking pictures, but I have never pursued doing anything with it.
The film developer called me very excited about how the black and white print turned out. When I saw the print I was very pleased with how the water drops falling from the geese were suspended in the air. My sister in law has always loved the view of our lake so I thought these would be great pictures for her walls. When she saw the black and white print she wanted to have it enlarged for the living room. It turned out great. She now has a unique wall hanging and I have one of my photographs displayed in the home of someone else.
